Florian Faion has been a research assistant at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany since June 2010 and is currently working towards his PhD about extended object tracking with application in telepresence systems.
His research interests include Bayesian estimation techniques, extended object tracking as well as telepresence.
In 2011, he took over the supervision of the telepresence system at the Intelligent Sensor-Actuator-Systems Laboratory (ISAS) and the development of a Kinect-based head pose tracking. In addition, he is the technical supervisor of the e-Installation project, where media art installations are digitised and virtually re-enacted using virtual reality techniques.
In September 2015, he will co-organise the first official e-Installation exhibition in the “ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe“, where the e-Installation “10.000 moving cities – same but different (2015)” by Swiss artist Marc Lee can be experienced in a telepresence system.
